No stench and it pops right up when released from its packaging. The top cover is super soft. I will never go back to a spring mattress. I got a "5" in the firmness chart. It's firm and supportive but you still sink in 1-2".

After I placed my order I was contacted by the seller, who told me that each mattress is custom-made and asked me if I wanted to adjust the firmness. I decided to stick with the default, and it is absolutely perfect! It is firm enough to offer great support but soft enough to feel like a dream. I haven't had it long enough to comment on how well it will hold up over time, but it certainly looks like a high-quality mattress. And one last fabulous point: it showed up on my doorstep fewer than 5 days after I placed my order!

Would absolutely purchase this mattress again. Purchased for my 5 year old daughter because her brother took over her twin bed. Primarily I was shopping for a bed that wouldn't have her inhaling a chemical odor for 12 hours each night. I am extremely pleased with this new mattress!
I would have never thought to shop for a mattress on Amazon, but I'm so glad I did.
